TWHC Policy Priorities – 85th Legislature – 2017

The Texas Women’s Healthcare Coalition's policy priorities for the 86th Legislative Session are aimed at improving women's health and access to healthcare services. It emphasizes the importance of fully funding safety net programs like Healthy Texas Women and the Family Planning Program to adequately address the state's healthcare needs. We advocate for policy changes to ensure access to contraception, including adding it as a covered benefit in CHIP and enabling women to access a 12-month supply of contraception through insurance coverage. Additionally, it underscores the importance of supporting healthy mothers postpartum by allowing them to maintain Medicaid coverage for 12 months and enhancing data access for maternal and infant health.
